Music is a juggernaut through which millions of people can connect and express themselves when times are tough, yet some would suggest we've lost crucial elements of what made them so, particularly in mainstream popular music.
Lend Me Your Ear is a collaboration between music photographer Andrew Cotterill and illustrator/art director Ben Tallon, a series Cotterill's iconic photographs fused with Tallon's hand painted lettering and illustration, celebrating the individuals and bands who stand for something in their creative work.
It's a celebration of distinctive personalities through their own lyrics and words, of people who achieved something and inspired many, not in spite of who they were, but by being so unashamedly themselves, without fear of the consequences.
Much of that fearlessness is what made music so fucking sexy and has been mislaid in a transformed music business built on social media statistics and commercial control. Lend Me Your Ear is a visual love letter from Cotterill and Tallon to creators who believed they could do something they care about for reasons more valid than riches and in turn, made us believe we could follow suit one day.
